‘Unlimited’ was a labour of love!
It went through several drafts and re-writes and is a good example of what can be achieved when you co-write with someone.
The song was primarily written as a song submission for the 2019 Spring Harvest Songbook.
As I’ve been writing songs for a while, each year Spring Harvest invites me to submit some songs for consideration for their New Songs songbook, and possibly a spot on their New Songs CD. I have been submitting songs for a while now, but so far have been unsuccessful – however they keep asking me, so I will keep trying!
The 2019 Spring Harvest theme this year was ‘Unlimited in Prayer’ so the song tries to fit that brief.
I wrote the first draft and submitted it to Homegrown Worship for consideration. I also posted it on Resound Worship’s songwriting forum where I received some helpful feedback.
Homegrown Worship linked me up with Nick Law who liked the song and really helped to craft it into what it is today. We changed the rhythm a little, searched for different and interesting lyrics that help to express the idea that “True prayer is neither a mere mental exercise nor a vocal performance. It is far deeper than that – it is spiritual transaction with the creator of Heaven and Earth.” (Charles Spurgeon).
‘Unlimited’ explores the theme of prayer and intercession in the verses, whilst in the chorus we are reminded of God’s unlimited power – a God in whom we can trust and rest safe assured that He has our best interests at heart; a God who is active and alive and hears and responds to the prayers of His people.

Divine connection – This supplication
Crying and desperate – Falling down on our knees
We join together in intercession
Hear our petition – Heed the cry of our hearts
Chorus
You are unlimited – Enthroned and unsurpassed
Your power is end – less – Unrivaled and unmatched
You stand a-part, above – Supreme in endless love
Your spirit empowers us – Oh God in you we trust
Oh God, in You we trust
This age is broken – Sin and confusion
Hurting and wounded – we have tarnished this world
Your heart longs for us, we know you love us
Stretch out your hand to save – Hear the prayers of your saints
