The Key to Christian Leadership Success

Learning Leadership

When it comes to learning about leadership, I get quite excited. Not only because it is something I see God clearly moving me towards an ever deeper expression of in my own life, but because it is part of me becoming more like Jesus. Following his leading and direction for me in what I am supposed to be doing but more than that, responding and changing on the inside into who He wants me to be.

I have attended leadership seminars and devoured many Christian books about leadership. I have also looked at the lives of those whom I consider to be great Christian leaders, especially those who live their lives openly and humbly in obedience to Jesus.

There is one common theme that emerges from them all which I believe is the key, the foundation stone of good Christian leadership.

The Key for Success

That common theme is regular, personal prayer. It may be surprising but it is so easy for leaders to be too busy leading and doing for there to be time to just connect with Jesus. To ask His opinion and His leading in what is going on.
Truly great Christian leaders make regular personal prayer a priority.
Our leadership must first and foremost flow out of a deep and personal relationship with The leader, Jesus. He is the head of the church. He should be the one leading it, through us.
At one leadership seminar I attended recently it was said that:
‘I pray every day that Jesus’ voice will be the loudest in my life’.
I have found this profoundly valuable. I need to be constantly tuning in with Jesus. Constantly hearing His voice. What he says today may very well be different to what He said to me yesterday. Keep your relationship with Jesus alive and your leadership and love of others will flow from that place of security, trust and authority.
So I encourage you today, don’t be too preoccupied by what has to be done, who needs to be seen, which of the 376 emails you received overnight needs to be responded to urgently.
Take some time to pray!
