Approach Boldly
Hebrews 4:14-16
Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
Hebrews 4:16 (NIV)
‘Matt, can I have a word with you in my office please?’ – There are some mornings that start like this for me, when my boss calls me in to his office for some mysterious reason. Sometimes I get quite fearful. The fear of the unknown can be a powerful thing. However, I know I have done nothing wrong so why should I be afraid of what my boss wants to say to me?
Knowing this helps me to enter his office calmly and without fear, knowing that whatever the problem is, I will be alright as I know there is nothing that can be held against me.
In the last session we looked at how having a healthy fear of God is important and necessary for us to fully understand our relationship with Him. However, because of Jesus we are able to approach God with boldness and confidence. He was the ultimate sacrifice – no more are required. His blood was enough to pay the price to cover all sin.
Because of Jesus, there is nothing that can be held against us. The passage tells us that Jesus is our great high priest who is in heaven, bridging the gap between us and God. Because we are covered with Jesus’ righteousness, our sin is washed away when we hide ourselves in Jesus.
This means we can confidently and boldly approach God in worship, through Jesus.
So as you approach God today in your time of worship, do so with confidence and without fear, knowing that Jesus has paid the price for all your sin in full.
Prayer
Jesus, Thank you for your sacrifice that enables me to draw near to God. – Amen.
