#Truth Devotional – Day 2

What is Truth?

John 8:31-32

31 To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

I believe this message is so important for the church and indeed for the world to hear in today’s culture of ‘relative truth’ that says ‘you can choose what you want to believe. If it’s true for you, then it’s true – that’s OK. I don’t want to offend you or disagree with you’.

I’m sure you have come across the idea that if something is true for you, it’s ok because it’s ‘your truth’ and something else is true for me so it’s ‘my truth’. They may be diametrically opposed, but hey, peace and love man!

The concept of truth has become a mixed up, wishy washy, pick-and-mix. It’s become life’s ‘Subway Sandwich’ where you choose the bits you like and leave the bits you don’t.

If you listen to our society it says: truth does not exist. There is no such thing. We are just making it up as we go along. For us to live together we need to leave each other alone. Talking about truth is a no-go area when the truth you speak of is absolute.

Church it is time to rise up! It is time to preach TRUTH that is absolute. It is time to separate the fiction from the reality in our own lives.

It is time to speak the truth in love to help each other become mature in Christ, even if that truth is correction and my hurt. We need to speak it.

Ephesians 4:15

15 ‘Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ.’

Prayer – Jesus. Give me eyes to see and ears to hear YOUR truth which is THE truth – even if I disagree with you at first. Forgive me for believing lies that I have just accepted as being true without first measuring it with your Word first. Help me to receive truth spoken in love and to speak the truth to others in return. Amen.
