I was very excited to get back to Academy. It was also an exciting time because we were combining with Academy 7 for the weekend, so lots more friendships to me made.
As you would expect from a seond meeting, we were all feeling more at ease as we already know each other and we were more willing to open up. The highlight of this weekend for me was the practical work! We got to split up and go to different workshops - I chose the guitar workshop which I found interesting for a number of reasons:
I don't think of myself as being a particularly talented guitar player, but being on this workshop showed me that I am not as bad as I think and that I am actually quite good at it. So that was a bit of a confidence boost for me. I also got to start to learn about the complicated world of alternative tuning, which is something I have been interested in but had no idea about where to start, so that has given me an introduction.
We were lucky enough to also do some co-writing of a song. I love writing songs, but had not written anything for a while at this point. Our group of 3 came up with a fairly good, yet simple song pretty quickly, which was a great boost! I have since come back and have started throwing lots more song ideas around again. Academy has set the creative spark off within me again which is always great! |
